Have some gotten so in tuned to what Jon and Kate are saying lately that they are willing to debate the bible with one another? Or even state that they J&K don't know it. Or aren't Christians?
Or have we literally taken a verse out of the old testament and put it into use today? In Exodus 21:24 it states (paraphrasing)"...if there is further damage than you must give life for life- eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand..." (from The Message Bible). Is what we are doing today no different than what they were doing during the time of Moses? Only we are doing it with words. Some have resorted to name calling and stalking each other on emails to get their point across. Is this the way we should be acting? I am not sure. This has me thinking. But that conversation is for another post for another time. I have gone completely off the subject.
When watching the show I do from time to time here them talk about their faith and going to church. (And while I am glad TLC doesn't show the churches name) I am sadden to here that extra measures have to be taken at these speaking engagements because people are making threats. Jon and Kate have chosen to speak only at churches or conferences that are religiously oriented. I commend them for that. It takes guts not to go into the public arena but to stay with churches. And while I think they should give their love offerings to charity who is to say they are not anonymously. I read what people had to say about them. You can find one recap of the speaking engagements on GDNNOP and another on My Jon and Kate Plus 8 fan website. (I hope I am able to put up links to these soon.) I understand they stayed away from the sticky questions and while I am not sure if they pre-approved the questions I do think they as well as the pastors wanted to keep the speaking engagement positive. (We need it nowadays).
But as I end my thoughts on this quick post because I am afraid I may go deeper and way off task I would like to say that I have heard many state that Jon and Kate can't be Christians because Christians wouldn't do that. Christians would speak up and this and that. But maybe Jon and Kate are deciding to look at "an eye for an eye" differently. Maybe they are looking at it as it is written about in Matthew 5:38-42 which states" Here's an old saying that deserves a second look: 'Eye for eye, tooth for tooth.' If someone strikes you, stand there and take it. If someone drags you to court and sues the shirt off of your back, gift wrap your best coat and present it. And if someone takes unfair advantage of you, use the occasion to practice the servant life. No more tit for tat stuff."
Something to think about.
