Just like Sean "P. Diddy"Combs said in his song.."It's all about the Benjamin's...What". At the time I thought he was doing what all rappers do...talk about how much money he has. But when I step back and take a look at the situation in regards to Jon and Kate this song actually makes sense.
As I do my reading (which is not daily due to my hectic schedule with the kids) I came across a website that talked about writing to sponsors and getting them to stop doing the show. I hate to tell you something kids...it ain't gonna work. I was in the TV biz for 6 years and there is one thing I can tell you for sure...the more you talk about it (good or bad) if its making money it's not going anywhere.
That's the way TV works. Why do you think ER stayed on so long or why shows like K-Ville, Men In Trees, Shark, Las Vegas won't be back for another season? It's all about ratings and money. And the more people tune in the more advertisers will too.
Jon and Kate are well aware of that fact. The V-Tech commerical is a prime example. Hey they came to them and probably pitched a good deal because demographically this show reaches 18-34 year old mothers. Hey I liked the game console they promoted myself, however I won't buy it for my kids. Not because "Kate got it for free" but because my kids already have a V-Tech. It's the older verison, but the games are cheaper and they are still learning. There is no way I would stop buying my kids educational games or an educational game system just because the Gosselin's got it for free. That's stupid! (No I am not calling anyone stupid...just the idea of not buying it stupid.) Come on think about it...would you rather your son play a game on V-Tech and learn about his numbers and the abc's or play Grand Theft Auto and learn how to car jack someone and talk to a hooker. Think about it.
As for the other products. Just because they show them on the show doesn't mean you have to get them. Juicy-Juice is a good juice and I do like for my kids to have it..but if Kroger's, Food Lion, or even Walmart has a sell or cheaper juice I am going to buy that. Not because the Gosselin's got it for free but because it fits in my budget.
What I am trying to get at is that many supporter's or sponsors of the show only see the bottom line and that is green. And when there is no more green there is no more sponsors. That is the way society works. We live in a captialistic one and it thrives on it. And in these times unless you are an oil company you are not sitting pretty and will take what you can get even if it does come with some negative press.
