Sorry for the long absence but motherhood took over for awhile. However I have not forgotten about Jon or Kate or their Hawaii episodes. I will have to say that I don't know about anyone else, but I am ready for my stay in Hawaii. (The problem is it is that it is light years away. But a girl can dream.) Anyway, I really loved this episode. Actually I loved to past episodes. Maybe its because of the awesome hotels they stayed at or maybe it was the water and water slides (because I am addicted to water slides). This episode was quite nice and a very good lead up to next week.
I am sure that their wedding will be one that will be debated for quite awhile on the blogs long after it is over but I have to admit that TLC is doing one heck of a job drawing in an audience. (I can't get away from the commercial for it, not that I want to because I love the song that goes with it.)
But back to the Hawaii episode. I will say that I rather enjoyed the things the kids got to do. I love the fact that Joel pretended he had a boom mic. And it was really cool that the girls got to make leis and learn the hula. My girls want to do it, but since we're in the middle of Fall but I might have a Hawaiian Day with them and we make fake hulas drink tropical drinks and do other fun (indoor) things. But that is nether here nor there. I was very glad to see them do things that both age groups like to do. But I was most surprised with Mady and how easily she made friends on the beach. I hope the girls she was talking to really wanted to be her friend and not just get on TV. That would go through my head a lot as a parent. But they seemed to really be enjoying each others company.
Another thing that really got me was when the kids got invited down to do cookies and Kate said that Mady had to stay behind because of her behavior. I really had to applaud her for that. I have a child like Mady (personality wise) and while it can be very frustrating to deal with I think Kate is right in removing her from any potentially rewarding experience. And contrary to popular belief by many blogs against the Gosselin's this is not Mady's attempt to get off camera nor is she a victim. I truly believe that Mady is a 8 year old ( I think she may have been 7 at the time) who really believes in getting what she wants no matter what and I also believe that she truly doesn't realize the camera is there when she has her meltdowns therefore we really get to see her in a raw state. (Meaning we get to see her do what we see our children do). But I also believe that Kate and Jon have asked the camera people to refrain from taping it. Which I for one am glad to see. I hate to admit it but I wouldn't be surprised if one of Mady's classmates came across what is being written about her and teased her about it. I pray not though.
Back to the show, I know that many people out there are pretty upset at the treatment the Gosselin's got at the hotel. I for one am not. Hey let me get some of that treatment. And you got to admit, the hotel probably wants to show off some of its best features and what better way to do it then to let the Gosselin's do it and show it on camera. Whether they are entitled to it or exploiting are completely different subjects. But come on here, if a company offered you something for free there is usually something attached. Whether you have to wear a t-shirt or put a bumper sticker on the car, that company will find a way for you to promote them. Isn't that business. I don't care what the naysayers think and the whole "moral" issue about how they wouldn't do it in a million years. As many would say "I'll believe it when I see it." Meaning you can talk out the side of your mouth if you want to about how you wouldn't do it, but if that hotel called you today and told you that your name had been drawn and you would get all the same things as the Gosselin's your telling me you wouldn't take it? I want to know. Would you or wouldn't you? Why?
And for the record...I would :)
