Well I have seen the edited version and the longer version on CBN. I have to say that I am very tempted to buy their book. The only problem is I know my husband won't let me. So I am hoping that my favorite online book store (Albris) will have it for sale soon. (BTW...and this is totally off topic but if you ever need to find a new, used or out of print book this is a great site to go to.) Anyway, her interview really touched me. I never knew she was as sensitive as she came across on the screen. Now don't get me wrong or miss read me here. I am not saying Kate is cold and uncaring...actually I think she is just the opposite. I think that she is very caring and probably hides how she is feeling in order to not get her feelings hurt. (I know exactly how that is because I have been there and believe me after getting hurt you grow a very thick skin and your lips tend to get loose...LOL something I am working on.) I thought it was a pretty good story.
I use to watch the 700 club and still tune in when a good story is on, but I do have to agree with a lot of people when they say that Pat Robertson rubs them the wrong way. I for one always felt guilty when I didn't or rather couldn't give and then you here them say if you do then you will be blessed and those that don't...well you see were I am going. But the show does bring a lot of people to the faith and hopefully Kate's interview will too. I think the interview really showed a side that we the viewing public rarely see. And it makes me think that maybe Kate has a type of dry sense of humor that most don't get. I am not taking up for her because I don't know her...but I know what it's like for someone to tell you that you don't care about your kids (in my case it was the classroom of children I was teaching.). It hurts...but you don't want the other person or people to know you are hurting. Just because you aren't touchy feely doesn't mean you care any less then a person who is. It is hard believe me but sometimes you do have to take the high road. And man is it not easy!!! (Believe me when I tell you my tongue has a mind of its own and the high road is not the path that I take sometimes, but that's for a different blog).
I guess the point in all my babbling is that in my little ol' opinion I think that Kate has two sides to her. The one that we see is her strong Type A personality which is wanting things perfect and having to have it her way. And then I think she has a more vulnerable side that we don't get to see so often. No I don't think her going on CBN hurt her or that she is a nutcase because she is talking about her religion and her relationship with God. We all have our own personal relationships with God (or not) but I think it is wrong for some to judge her and her appearance. I actually think that by her going on CBN she is going to actually help the show because she just got a whole new audience to tune in. I mean she just tapped into a whole new demographic and they may not even care about the Internet and what is said on it. And for those who are writing CBN and telling them who Kate "really" is. I hate to be the one to tell you, but all they are going to do is pray for you and delete the email. (I know that must burn up some people out there...but you see that's what some of us Christians do. We love instead of hate...don't you just hate that? Or should I say love that?)
And let me just say on a side note without going into different ideologies that whether or not Kate and Jon show their religion on tv is something they must deal with internally. I don't think that they must be like the Duggars. Think about it...if they were would we really tune in? Probably not. We don't know if the kids say their prayers at night. We don't know what scriptures are posted around the house. We don't know if they (meaning Jon and Kate) do bible study together before they go to bed. We won't know. And maybe TLC is choosing to put some of that on the cutting room floor because there are other things that are more juicy to show. The point I am trying to make however long that may be is that we shouldn't judge whether or not Jon and Kate are "Christian" enough or whether or not it's Christian for them to get "freebies".
And one final note (I promise) I don't think people should judge Jon for going to the Salvation Army either. There may be times when we all are down on our luck and need some assistance. If you never have the need to get it...please stay blessed and be thankful. But don't look down on those that do. (And I'm not saying that everyone does...please don't think that). But really...think about how hard it must have been for Jon (who was probably making a decent amount of money) to have to go the Salvation Army and ask for help. Heck it's hard for my husband to admit that we may need help in these upcoming months. But I am thankful for food pantries and the Goodwill, and the Salvation Army. Please don't think that I am feeling pity for the Gosselin's...oh contrare as they say. What I am saying is that I understand.
So now that my daily thesis is over...what do you think about Kate on the 700 Club? Do you think she was sincere...or was she just playing to the camera?

I liked the interview on the 700 club. Most of her interview was about things we all who follow J&K and the kids already know, but there were a few things we got to hear for the first time and I def. think Kate was very sincere. In fact I'm more of a fan of Kate now than I was before the interview.
Thanks for your blog! I always love to read your POV.
At the speaking engagement I attended last February, Jon and Kate stated that TLC chooses not to show most of the Gosselins Christian faith. Jon and Kate commented on how TLC had only shown them pray once or twice (one time right before Kate's surgery).
I have never doubted their faith and do not judge them on whether they do Bible study before bed or if they just go to church and pray before meals. Faith is such a personal thing and everyone practices in different ways. What I do know is that Jon and Kate have a love for the Lord. That is clear in their book ( you would LOVE it), through some of their interviews such as the 700 Club and at their speaking engagements (if you ever get a chance, GO!!!).
Like Cali-mom, I too am more of a fan of Kate from watching the 700 Club interview and from reading the book.
If you watch the show carefully many notecards with Bible verses are posted all around their house (And if you read the book, you know that these are the same verses Kate's mom wrote out for her that she placed all around her hospital room). They wear shirts that say Isaiah 40:31 on camera (you can read them most clearly when they are in the interview chair). When they did the episode with the family Mission Statement, the entire statement was oriented towards their family being an example of Christ's love. I'm sure that TLC leaves out many of the moments that would show us more of their faith because they want to appeal to the largest audience possible and not "offend" any potential viewers.
Thank you all for your comments. I thought that their faith was cut out too because they do reference to the Lord a lot. (Which I personally like).
And I am definitely going to look into getting the book.
thanks for the comments.
