I thought with the holiday coming up and all the joy that I have I would like people to lay off the Gosselin's back. I thought about this the other day after a comment was made disagreeing entirely with me. (I am so excited I finely got the other side "mad" about something.) Sorry but I just think personally that it is hilarious that others who are so determined to bring down Jon and Kate can't even be happy that they were giving back. So let my b*tching session begin.
So can I first say that NOT everything Jon and Kate do is for damage control. And while I understand that were they were staying and the flight would have made a healthy donation whose to say that they didn't make a donation. If they were to say it on air, people would be all over them (like a raccoon is with a garbage can) and saying they only did it because they were being filmed. It's like d*mn if they do, d*mn if they don't. I just don't get it. Would people be more happy if they took the Greyhound (which there is nothing wrong with that) and kept themselves and the kids in the Bates Motel and walked to the hospital. We have no clue if they paid for all of it or not. I am assuming that they did. But we all know better than to assume because when we do we make ASSumptions that makes ourselves look like the first three letters in the word. Anyway...
My other gripe that I have is the fact that people were all over the Gosselin's for going to a children's hospital and not the local soup kitchen. I for one am not going to get all over the Gosselin's for not giving locally when I myself have not volunteered at a local soup kitchen myself. (Wouldn't that be like the pot calling the kettle black?) I give to the local toy for tots and toys for the holidays drive. I also show my kids the importance of going through our cabinets and donating food to the local food pantry for families in need for the holidays. But can we really assume (there's that word again) that the Gosselin's didn't? Again, just because they didn't show it doesn't mean they didn't do it.
The other thing that is really crawling under my skin is all the hullabaloo over Kate taking the kids to KMart to shop. Of course she's going to take them to KMart. I mean come on now. She's the spokesperson for KMart...how would that look her going into Walmart and saying "We love it in here...the prices are the lowest around." It's like Micheal Jordan wearing Calvin Klein underwear even though everyone knows he is a spokesperson for Hanes. I mean really.
And finally...to anon who wanted to justify why I should hate Jon and Kate. I am a fan of both shows (LPBW and J&K+8) I was just pointing out the fact that everyone on GWoP are quick to say that LPBW all you see is them around there house and not traveling all over the place. And I POINTED out that you see them on many trips as well. We all have different types of occupations and while some may not agree with Jon and Kate on the outside I bet if one of the major three networks or a big time cable network emailed them and offered them a show for about $15,000 to $20,000 an episode they wouldn't be so harsh on them. And don't give me any of that "I have morals" crap. If your family needed it (which many families now a days do) you mean you could turn it down and your husband say "honey you did the right thing." (Yea right!)
I'm through...and boy do I feel better. Don't hate me or call me names because I like the show. NO I am not crazy and YES I can see through the fog. While I may not agree with everything Jon and Kate do...at least I am not throwing stones at them.
And remember people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Really nice post. Thanks for your thoughts.

the Gwoppers are all up in arms over the fact that we see the Gosselins going to places and travelling. Isn't this better than filming them at home and invading their personal space, as the Gwoppers so like to cry about? I mean, it's less invasion if they film on trips. I'd rather have a camera follow them on trips than film them at home for all the episodes.
JK8 picks themes that they want to show, like them going on their special day, or going to Utah, which makes it far more interesting, and less invasive than just showing them at home.
The themes for the show are picked by the production company. It has been said that the Christmas caroling last year and the kids one on one days would not have been done otherwise.
Criticizing which charity a family chooses to donate to is the ultimate in petty self-centeredness! Good Lord. What would the families of the children who are patients of St. Jude's Hospital think of this criticism???
First, let me say I was happy to see there was a logical, thinking blog out there about this TV show. I've had time on my hands from the holidays, and started peering around the Internet. I couldn't believe the nastiness I saw on some blogs regarding all of the TLC shows. I watch all (to my horror, actually, because its really not my style!) of the shows. I've looked at one of the blogs (actually commented, and I'm waiting to be accused of being Kate), seen the boycott lists (wow, not only have they boycotted Proctor & Gamble, and K-Mart, but most of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania!), and I don't get it.
I've worked with inner city families for years... At one point, I had 7 boys that had been abused in some fashion (4 sexually). I've bought clothing, food, shoes, you name it for some of these kids because their parents can't or won't. I regularly send home food backpacks with some kids, especially in the winter when its too cold for them to get to the soup kitchen. I've had parents sell their kid's medication on the street corner (ask me about the time I had to be trained to administer psychotropic meds because a parent kept selling her sons pills), sell clothing we've gotten...
I wouldn't have chosen the Gosselin's path, but I don't think they are any worse than any of the other families that have done this. I don't necessarily mean the Duggars or the Roloffs, either. There are tons of families that write books about their lives, or have TV programs.
HI, I am new and I do like the show. The Duggers annoy me and so I just don't watch; I never felt a need to boycott anything about a show that way.
I do boycott P&G products, but that is because they do animal testing, and also Unilever. Not using anything by those two makes shopping a challange but it can be done. If I was going to boycott a show because of its commercials, all those "adult" meds and such that have made their way into prime time would be first on my list.
Honestly, it all comes down to the kids. If I had the chance to have my husband home with me and my daughter and expose her to such a wide variety of trips, educational experiences and a diverse group of people, heck yeah I'd do it. Also, as it has been said before, the quads grew up with the film crew. To them it is normal, just as a child with a single parent sees their home as normal, the Alexis, Hannah, Leah, Aaden, Joel, Collin, Maddy and Cara simply have a different kind of family. I say, the more the merrier. As to the distance between Kate and Jon and their families, who are we to judge that? How many of us can say we love and have never fought with someone in our families?
Well, that's enough for now... kudos on a lovely rounded view of the situation with JK+8.
You know what, they are a family.
The kids are CUTE.
The parenting techniques are real, and acceptable, and its entertaining and enjoyable.
They do good things with their money, and the kids will all get to go to college with the funds theyve recieved.
So heres to them!
I love the family and the show, and wish them nothing but happiness in the future!
I get a kick out of them!
