Sorry for the long absence...but when motherhood and a whole lot of snow and ice call...you know what I mean. Anyway, I have been checking out the blogs over the week and have come to the conclusion that the Internet especially certain blogs can be really scary.
So...I know you are asking what do you mean? For those who have recently been on GWOP and seen the comments on the new house and the old house you know exactly what I mean. (By the way...am I in no way of turning this blog into a bash session against GWOP but some of the things I saw made me think about certain things.) I understand that Jon and Kate put their life on TV (and really put themselves out there when it comes to the crazies) but I don't think they or any of us for that matter would think that people would become as obsessive as some have. I mean certain stuff on that blog has gone beyond anti-Gosselin and non fans voicing their opinions to literally becoming stalkers and that is really scary.
When it comes to the show most people fall into one of two categories...you either love them or hate them. For those that dislike them it may be due to different reasons but I feel it crosses the line when you literally google people to the point that you pull up all their real estate information. (Yes I do understand that it is public record...but really how scary is it that anyone can go online and pull up anything from your home purchase to if you have any court records.) I for one really don't care if Moses came back and brought the house for the Gosselin's and is selling it in his name...they don't deserve anyone looking up that information. Or for that matter putting a link up to where their old house is and compare it to the other houses in the neighborhood. (Although I thought the site was both cool to find homes and creepy at the same time.) I also was very creeped (I have no idea if that is a word or not) about people zooming in on pictures at the old house to see stuff that may or may not be there. And also to see what is exactly on the post it notes. (Do you really hate a person THAT much that you really need to see if they left dirt in the corner or if it is really scripture they wrote?) That's just darn right nutty to me. (The movie Misery with Kathy Bates kept playing in my mind the entire time I was strolling through different threads.)
I guess what I am trying to get at is what's the purpose? What do you get out of picking out all the faults of Kate or the way she left her house? Is the prize patrol waiting for whoever comes up with the wittiest remark? I understand that Kate can be a bit over the top (i.e. the fridge at the new house) but that doesn't bother me. Maybe because my dad is like that and to a certain degree it has rubbed off on me. (I am procrastinating perfectionist...I have no idea how I have become it but its hilarious to see when I get in one of my "Kate modes".) To scrutinize every detail..to nitpick and research all this information to do what with? I am really scared for the Gosselins. I mean for people to say "oh...I know where that is..." or "I should drive down to the open house and let them know..." Are you kidding me? What the h*ll are you expecting them to say when you get there? Thank you? How about trespassing (even though I guess it wouldn't be unless they stayed after being asked to leave) or even harassment (because you and me both know they would cause a scene. One in which I would personally bring popcorn and a lawn chair to watch. To see crazy people in action is pure entertainment.) And no I am not calling people who write on GWOP crazy (but I will go as far as to say I do believe that some of their elevators stop on the 4th floor and don't go all the way to the top).
I am at a loss of words as to how to describe this. What do you think? Do you think I am overreacting or are some people crossing the line?

I agree with you. I've only recently discovered that*other site* but I keep wondering if I should keep reading it. Sometimes the comments and recaps are funny. I like the show and the family but I do think there are a few things that could be done differently by the parents and/or production crew.
The problem that I have with the site, and the reason it makes me scream at my screen sometimes while reading it, is that the people there are so insanely focussed on picking on the family and they themselves (the commenters/writers of GWOP)twist facts and try to pass off their perceptions as facts. They exaggerate even the smallest thing into a world class disaster. And if they can't think of anything else to say they dig and dig for more personal information to try to 'prove' that they are bad people.
Whew. Sorry about that. The site has just been frustrating me in the last few weeks I've been reading it, and if I post a comment on their entries suggesting that they might be skewing the truth (which I tried to do twice) they don't post it.
it's a fucking tv show. get a life.

I usually bristle at posters saying the show should end if for no other reason than because of the haters frenzy, but the posts the on the main hate site and some of the others have me questioning that. Some of these women have become unhinged. And it's all over a house. Make no mistake. This frenzy stems from jealousy pure and simple.
Sad and scary at the same time.

I have not visited that horrible blog in months and I have no intention of ever going to that place.
GWOP is a disgusting site in my opinion. I've only been there a few times and I don't like it one bit.
There is a difference between civily discussing opinions on J&K and downright bashing them and making up stories about them. I don't like how they name call, to me that makes them just as bad as Kate ( who I like, by the way.. but they don't ) it hurts their cause as well. Most of the people on that site I find to be more hateful than Kate, and very immature.
Also creepy, they nitpic every tiny detail and blow everything way out of proportion. I bet if a camera was in any of their houses for any length of time they would not look like saints either, which apparently they think they are.
I can understand calling J&K names, even though I don't agree with it. But I've seen people on there call the children names.. which I dont agree with AT ALL. Theyre 4 & 8 years old, you are the grown up.. act like it.
Soccermomof3 - I really like your opinions and the way youdiscuss them. It's civilized and people take them seriously. Over at GWOP I never take anything they say seriously because I kno now matter what happens they will always say something negative. If J&K donated their entire house to charity they would have SOMETHING negative to say about it and I just don't agree with that.

I don't think your are over reacting and people appear to have crossed the line awhile ago. It appears to have escalated with this past weeks episode. I believe it stems from jealousy. Nothing else really makes sense.
Finally! A blog where people are not badmouthing the Gosselins. Thanks for remembering that J&K are still human beings. Honestly, I watch the show because the kids are so darn cute. End of story. I think we all know that the show will end one day but for now, just let them have their (extended) 15 minutes of fame. Who cares if they are living in a nicer home? They deserve it.
hey soccermom, thanks so much for your balanced view of the gosselins. i only found out about the whole aunt jodi-gosselin feud recently and the first site that i was directed to was GWOP. While i was shocked and sad to learn the reason why aunt jodi wasnt on the show anymore, i felt GWOP was extremely biased and only existed to insult the gosselins. i'm so glad that i stumbled upon your website and for the unbiased views you have. keep up the good work.
You are not overreacting at all! Personally, I am glad that the Gosselins have moved into a home that provides them with more security (farther off the road, away from neighbors, security gate etc).
I have not ventured over to GWoP in sometime. I stopped reading that blog because I do not understand how people can be SO cruel and scary!
People have been crossing the line for sometime and it is scary! I agree that the level that people go to, doing "research" on the Gosselin, digging up anything they can on this family, IS down right harassment!
People showing up at open houses, putting sticky notes on books at Sams Club, approaching the Gosselins home, emailing Pastors of churches where the Gosselins are speaking, etc. In my opinion that ALL crosses the line.
Hello! I just stumbled across your website while looking for a non-hateful J & K forum. After reading your first post, you're immediately on my bookmarks list.
I generally enjoy the show and like the Gosselin's, so this seems like a nice place to civilly discuss the show. Hey, they aren't perfect and I don't mind discussing the negatives as well as the positives, but as the other commentators noted, there is really no "discussing" the show. It's, "they are horrible, awful, greedy, slave drivers" I disagree with that. So it will be nice to get away with the hate.
I read one page of comments on a GWOP post and was exhausted. I don't think that the people there are jealous of the Gosselin's, I don't quite have the exact word, but the closest I can think of is hateful and obsessive.

I am one of those "hate" the show rather than "love" the show people. I use to watch, but started to dislike certain aspects and stopped watching. However i don't run around bashing them or picking on the kids. They are human, they just aren't humans i prefer to watch. I think people can love them or hate them, but people definately shouldn't be stalking them or harrasing them. I do feel the kids are expoited slightly (they are going to look back at all the episodes w/them in the bath and wish they hadn't aired probably) and the parents make money off the kids. But that's what they choose and people watch and they got a big house for it, so whatever. If you hate the show (as i do) just don't watch it. I have checked out GWOP and think they go way over board on the negative, and other websites go way over board on how perfect they are.
Just my opinion.

I really only started reading about JK+8 recently, and GWOP was the first blog I found about them... initially I was appalled at some of the things written in there and it started to taint my feelings about the show. Then I found this site, which I feel offers a more balanced view about the show and doesn't (often, haha) resort to pure negativity. I do really enjoy the show, but Kate does occasionally annoy me. I think that everybody that watches needs to take the show with a grain of salt, because of course it's edited and TLC is going to capitalize on the controversy the show has around it. I really liked the interview with Jon posted earlier, I think it gave a more complete set of answers to the questions we all have.
Anyway, thanks for the blog -- I plan to keep reading!
I can't believe some of the remarks here. I don't hate Kate at all and I am certainly not jealous of her. She is in for a lifetime of problems with those children. Mady is just fuming with anger and Cara is holding way too much inside.
The precious little ones are already showing traits that are worrisome. Last week Alexis said "What are you looking at?"
The 5-6 interviews Kate did last week showed 8 miserable children. The boys sat like little zombies and the girls fought and smacked at one another.
I don't know what the solution is. The children expect VIP treatment wherever they go and the end of the show will severely alter their way of life.
Kate seems to be gone a tremendous amount of time and there are nasty rumors about Jon in the Wernersville newpaper.
I pray TLC will figure a solution out (and I hate to see them start the OctoMom down the same path).

The "Wernersville newspaper" where there are nasty rumors is actually a blog where some nut jobs make up ridiculous lies. You can tell where they are from with their cure little words like KON.
I have always liked to watch J&K+8 but do think that the last year was not actually that good because it really didn't show raising multiples as much as it showed vacations. It just got too fancy and most families of multiples do not have those advantages. I've never liked the way she talked to her husband, but that's how some women treat their man. If it doesn't bother him, why should it bother me. I love their new house. One could get lost for days in a room there :)
And, I do not believe in rumors. It's the sign of the times though. People get pleasure from dissing other people.
Lately, I've been a little worried about Kate. She is beginning to look ill. I don't know if it's because she is so thin or because of all the traveling she is doing. She's beginning to look kind of anorexic to me and her eyes seem sleepy looking. Has anyone else noticed this?
And, I don't much care for her new "do". I keep wishing she would pull that hair back out away from her eye.
Well, I'll keep tuning in to see the next J&K+8 on Monday night.

completely irrational. The stalking, their harrassing and their slander are just unnecessary. What do they think they will accomplish? Truly, I don't know what their reasoning or motive is. I don't believe is jealousy, hell I am jealous! But I wish the Gosselins nothing but the best. It is total insanity... Almost like a cult...
